So that was the first thing going through our minds. Detective Brian Mc Cartin: She said she heard some voices, and she heard people come upstairs. And then all of a sudden-- she said the next thing she heard were the police knockin' on the bathroom door. Joel had been an officer for the LA School District for five years. But here's where the evidence didn't seem to fit quite right. Detective Brian Mc Cartin: In my opinion he was shot while he was sleepin' on the couch. Karen Shanbrom: I don't even know how to put it into words. I want you." And this was all within the first week of the murder. Detective Brian Mc Cartin: We don't have the murder weapon, we don't have any eye witnesses.
Detective Brian Mc Cartin: At quick glance, it looks like it was a home invasion robbery. And she heard what she thought sounded like someone confronting her husband. And so, said Jennifer, she scooped up Jacob from the tub and rushed down the hall to hide in the master bedroom shower. Detective Brian Mc Cartin: She thought, "Now they're going through the upstairs." And she heard drawers opening, noise banging, drawers falling onto the floor. But then investigators learned something else that might also explain what happened... Detective Brian Mc Cartin: Maybe it was job-related. Maybe he arrested somebody that was angry enough to do this to him. You're gonna be up, tryin' to defend-- get ready-- you might have to just move or do something to-- you know, to fend off an attack. There was something else about the place that bothered him, too. In an effort to save everyone the trouble (not to mention the awkward moments when I bust you peering through my kitchen window at the back of my house), I’ve decided to put it all out there for everyone to see. I do know, however, that the gossips will gossip and that while I am a grown woman who answers only to me, it is sometimes less work to be blunt.
Or better yet, they sit in the comfort of their own home, surf the web, and hunt you through your status updates and Facebook photos you get tagged in.
